Each week, in The Chronicle of Higher Ed or Inside Higher Ed stories or opinion pieces focus on the importance of ensuring that students who go to college learn to interact with people different from themselves. The increasingly global nature of education and the mix of races and economic classes comprise just a few of the reasons put forward by schools to prepare students for the real world.

Currently, there are also many stories about the decline in liberal arts and the necessity of teaching the skills necessary to well on the job market and life.

The education quiz today largely focuses on what the new group of enrolling students perceive are their strengths and weaknesses. Whether the students themselves are the best judges of their skills and abilities is an important question.

What do students think they are good at? Where do they perceive weaknesses? Should these responses be used in making educational policy? Why or why not?
